If someone told you there was $1,000 waiting for a student like you, would you take the offer? Most of us would, but as many as one in ten scholarships has gone un-claimed at the University of Regina. That’s money sitting and waiting for someone like you!

Donors and sponsors create scholarships and awards for students of different backgrounds, financial situations, and academic programs… Not just students with A+ grades! So if they’re not looking for perfect marks, what are they looking for?

Community and volunteer experience
Many awards look for students who are active in their community, as a coach, volunteer, or community leader. You should briefly describe each experience, when you were involved, and how much time your involvement needed.

Diversity
Some awards are based on being part of a certain cultural, minority, or diversity group, often to help under-represented groups attend university. Seek out awards based on your unique situation, and remember to declare that you’re part of that group on your application!

Financial need
Many awards help out students who have trouble balancing the books to get into school. They may ask you for an honest picture of your financial need to help make university more accessible for more students.

We also offer guaranteed scholarships to celebrate academic excellence. At the University of Regina, guaranteed awards of $1,500 to $20,000 are available for qualified applicants with entrance averages of 85% or higher.

Don’t go at it alone: apply for student awards when you apply for admission. Visit URConnected.ca to connect with a recruiter and get started.
